Promoting leadership, excellence and citizenship
in the community of Leicestershire.

Leicestershire First

Leicestershire First is a charitable trust launched by Maurice and Vivien Thompson, the aim of which is to promote leadership, excellence and citizenship in the community of Leicestershire.

The primary objective is to build, support and sustain commitment to a more cohesive community within the City and County. Leicestershire First aims to promote shared values, strengthen intercultural links and bring communities together through recognition and celebration of Leicestershire’s achievements, while emphasizing the importance of social and community giving.

Leicestershire First will identify and recognise community achievement through an Awards Scheme following the example of the National Beacon Prize for Philanthropy. Leicestershire First has entered into a partnership with The Beacon Fellowship Charitable Trust. Through promoting the importance of social and community giving in Leicestershire, the Partnership aims to set an example which may be replicated in other parts of the UK.

Actions and achievements qualifying for an Award will include acts of bravery, sacrifice, generosity and commitment to the community and environment, as well as outstanding achievements by Citizens of Leicestershire in their field of specialisation, particularly in the Arts, Music and Sport. As a condition of receiving their Awards, successful applicants will commit to donate the proceeds of their prizes to an eligible charity of their choice in Leicestershire.
